The Holocaust

  1. Why was Germany hit the hardest during the depression?

In 1929 the Wall Street Crash led to a worldwide depression. Germany suffered more than any other nation as a result of the recall of US loans, which caused its economy to collapse. Unemployment rocketed, poverty soared and Germans become desperate.

One huge consequence of this situation was a huge rise in unemployment and by the time Hitler became chancellor in January 1933 one in three Germans were unemployed. With this figure hitting 6.1 million industrial productions had also more then halved over the same period

  1. Explain what Germany had to agree to by signing the Treaty of Versailles?

Some of the things that Germany had to agree on with the Versailles treaty were for Germany to require disarm, make territorial concessions to Belgium,Czechoslovakiaand Poland, pay reparations to the many countries that had formed the entente powers, return Alsace and Lorraine to France and cede all its overseas colonies in China, Pasific and Africa to the allied nations.

  1. How was NZ affected by the depression?

There were many countries that ere affected in this tragedy and new Zealand was one of them.

In New Zealand the crash was not immediately apparent but the 1930 export prices had begun to plummet. It had started falling to 45% by 1933. In the end of 1930 the urban businesses had manufacturers and were feeling the flow-on effects.

The great depression.

1933: Hitler appointed Chancellor burning of the Reichstag first anti-Jewish measures first concentration camp opened at Dachau  indefinite imprisonment becomes law.

1934: President Hindenburg dies in office and Hitler combines the roles of  Chancellor and President, becoming Commander-in-Chief of Germany

November 35th Nuremberg laws enacted, defining Jews biologically,  and sanctioning the final social and legal separation of Jews and non-Jews

1937: concentration camp at

Buchenwald opens; major anti-Semitic exhibition in Berlin

1938: Anschluss (Germany annexes Austria) Italy joins Germany in passing sweeping anti-Jewish measures known as ‘Racial Laws’

Prezi data on the ecosystem

  1. Is commercial fishing threatening the ecosystem?

  2. What is by-catch?

  3. What is a ‘Dolphin safe label’?

  4. Are there any sustainable ways of fishing if so what are they?

  1. Yes commercial fishing is threatening the ecosystem in many ways such as…

  • Stopping fish from being able to reproduce

  • Less fish are in the ocean which can affect the food chain and many other things

  • Some fish start to over populate because we keep fishing certain fish that eat certain fish

Average amount of fishing has mostly been illegal internationally, including protected fish and masse’s of those protected fish end up on our plates. Former workers in the past have reported that entire teams were enslaved and forced to work without wages.these workers sometimes get Abusive beatings and are forced to work until exhaustion are commonplace on certain ships. Certain workers in these situations are getting less sleep than needed and a lot of them are still children. Addition to all these things (illegal fishing) causes extreme damage to the ocean because environmental regulations are typically not followed.

  1. Bycatch is where the unwanted sea animals have been caught and just left to die such as…

  • Dolphins tuna fishing is estimated to have killed nearly 600,000 dolphins.

  • Sea turtles

  • Protected fish

  • Sharks

  • Whales

  • Sea birds

  • Cetaceans

  • Seals

  • Sealions

Around 720,000 sea birds, 300,000, 345,000 seals and sealions and over 250,000 sea turtles die because of being caught in fishing gear like nets, hooks, fishing line and many other fisheries around the world annually.

  1. The dolphin safe label was made to “protect the dolphins” even though it was a big fail. It was in compliance with the U.S laws and regulations of tuna fishing operations.

  1. Yes there are ways of sustainable fishing for example in the Philippines of the Tagbauna people they sometimes use spears to fish (example down below)

Some people use a spear gun which in my opinion is less work in order to shoot at the fish that you are planning on catching.

Some other places go fishing for a certain fish each season of the year which means fish don’t overpopulate, go endangered or go extinct.

Merchant of Venice

For the past few weeks my english class has been working on video making for each group. My group movie was based on The Merchant of Venice. Our short film is all about a heist at the bank and how someone ratted them out to the police but they paid the judge to say they were not guilty so in court they were charged not guilty. Some challenges we all had to face was when some people that needed to be in the shot weren't at school to do it so we had to think outside the box and find a way to still film with one less person to act in the scene even if it was the main character in the shot. We connected this movie to The Merchant of Venice by using elements like betrayal, a court scene and the "villain" getting karma for doing the main cast "wrong". After doing using all the film techniques were had to pick two of our own to put in the film, so we chose to do the High angle and Over the shoulder. If I were to do this activity again and I could do something different I would do everything differently.

Little things matter

Once upon a time there was a wise man

who used to go to the ocean

to do his writing.

He had a habit of walking

on the beach

before he began his work.

One day he was walking along

the shore.

As he looked down the beach,

he saw a human

figure moving like a dancer.

He smiled to himself to think

of someone who would

dance to the day.

So he began to walk faster

to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw

that it was a young man

and the young man wasn't dancing,

but instead he was reaching

down to the shore,

picking up something

and very gently throwing it

into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out,

"Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused,

looked up and replied,

"Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked,

why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up and the tide is going out.

And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that

there are miles and miles of beach

and starfish all along it.

You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely.

Then bent down, picked up another starfish

and threw it into the sea,

past the breaking waves and said-

"It made a difference for that one."

What is the main message in this poem?

The message in this poem is that even the small things matter. Small things like saving a small starfish on the beach and throwing it in the ocean can still change a little bit of the starfish population and doing so means that more starfish can be created and the starfish population grows more every day.

The more starfish that die the less starfish are on this earth so every starfish you save means more and more are created.

Show Don't Tell

Today we are doing "show don’t tell” to write 3-5 effective narrative openings. I will be reflecting on 3 photos that I'm going to "show not tell you". This has to do what image has given, I hope you enjoy it. Here's what I wrote.

1.  As I was sitting down on the step while it was frosty, a man walked past me and gave me this side view that didn't surprise me.

2. Is anyone around me? I need to take this luscious meat home tonight for my kids.

3. It was just a common day for me as I felt the feeling of boredom once again.

Music post

1. what have you enjoyed about music this year?
- Getting to learn many other different songs that I didn't know about before.

2. what have you found challenging?
- The piano I found challenging because learning the piano takes some time and only having a certain amount of time to learn was hard.

3.what did you perform for you final assessment?
- I performed When I look at you from Miley Cyrus with a girl named Addyson and the reason we chose this song was because not many people can do this song but me and Addyson wanted people to know that we could do it.

4. how did you find performing?
- Nerve racking because you don't normally perform often in music and this was the first time I did was so it was pretty challenging.

5. were you happy with your performance
- No not exactly I feel like I could have done better.

6. any comment or questions about music about 2020
- If we are going to learn an instrument at least give us more time to actually learn.

Women Rights

Introduction

Women rights for the past few years have been confirmed that it has been inequality from men and have been treated completely differently over the years. In certain countries men think that women should not have an education up to the age of 13 years and can not do sports and drive etc. Women have also been told that they should stay home clean and look after the baby and the house while the men are out working and most likely getting drunk. Women have also been thought to be weaker than men and that women have less stamina than men when some women can have more muscle strength and stamina then a lot of men do these days.

Paragraph 1-What causes your topic?

Over the years Men have thought that women should look after the baby and clean the house because the men go to work and make money for the household. It was thought that because of men having to work to get money women should do the work at home. New Zealand was the first country to allow women to have the right to have a political vote. On the 19th of September 1893 a new electoral act was passed into law.

Paragraph 2-what are the impacts of your topic?

Most of the main issues of women rights are freedom of speech and freedom in general , violence, economic and political empowerment, sexual and reproductive health rights. Yes men get sexually assaulted as well which is not fair at all but most of the time police have found women on the streets beaten up naked and have most likely been sexually assaulted and most of the time women can not fight back. Yes men are stronger than most women out there which means some of us women can not stand a chance fighting back.

Paragraph 3-what is the situation of your topic?

Men are still to this day saying girls should stay home and clean, cook, bake, look after the baby etc. Some main situations of women rights are:

  • Women suffrage

  • Sexual and Reproductive rights

  • Freedom and Movement

  • Intersectional Feminism

  • Gender inequality

  • Gender based violence

  • Sexual violence and Harrasement

  • Workplace descrimination

  • Child Marriage

  • Domestic workers

  • Labor rights in the garment industry

  • Woman and armed conflict

  • Underpaid women

These main key points can lead to many riots and many political arguments. Women have already started having major riots about women rights and have made a lot of political arguments and so the situation grows larger and larger as the years go by and the bigger it gets the bigger the problem is to fix. These problems have led to much hate between countries and cities and has almost begun a war.

Conclusion

My conclusion is to stop with the judging of both genders, allow women to get the same amount of pay in sports and work spaces then men, allow women to be able to do more stuff and stop restricting them and making them feel free and allow them to have the same amount of speech as men.

My timeline about Coraline

Today I am learning how to make a timeline about a movie named Coraline and this is what I have made.
By making this it makes others understand and myself to understand what i have learnt and what I now know.
I personally think that making this I can go back and look at it in the future and show people in my family and my friends that this is what I know and this is what I have done with what I know.

Coraline Movie

Movie: Coraline | Realm of Sapphire Star

At the start of the movie Coraline is the most bright object while everything else is a dull dark greyish color. the lighting is cloudy and makes people think as they are watching that something major is about to happen. The real world makes Coraline feel bored and makes Coraline feel lonely as her parents don't pay any attention to her. How ever when Coraline goes to the other world the colors and bright and bold and is very interesting and makes everything look more fun and more alive than they real world as the real world looks dead. The garden in the real world is dark and grey and very unhealthy and looks dead but the fake worlds garden is vibrant and bright but the colors are very unreal and you can tell its fake. The lighting as Coraline walks into the other worlds kitchen is warm and very welcoming as the real worlds kitchen is more of a faded yellow dark type of vibe as the other worlds kitchen is more of a orange peachy warm and welcoming color.

18 Moments That Prove "Coraline” Is Actually A Horror Movie

The button eyes are introduced.

After Coraline rejects having buttons as eyes the colors in the other world start getting darker and start getting more scary and the characters as in her fake dad and the fake wybie start acting suspicious and start acting weird and so does the other mother. When Coraline finds out what is going on she heads back home to realise that the other mother has taken her real parents and trapped them so she goes on a mission to save her real parents and the lost souls that were stolen by the other mother.

A Girl Cornered in a Parallel World, in Henry Selick's Animated Film - The New York Times    Coraline - 2009 , movie clip : Coraline goes back to the other world - YouTube

She then goes through the tunnel to realise that the tunnel is now grey and dark and scary and is way more different then the purple and blue tunnel. When she makes it to the other world the colors are more dark and some bright colors are more of a scary neon type of color. Things start to go down hill and start to fade away slowly but quickly.

Coraline's adventure ends with a happy ending and... | Sutori

After everything after saving the lost souls and saving her real parents the real world starts to become more bright and starts to grow some color and the neighbours help out with the new garden.

What I think

What is the name of the song you you are going? The name of the song is when I look at you.

Who wrote the song? Miley Cyrus.

What is the song about? The song we are singing is about love.

Who is in your group? Addyson, Megan and I.

What is each person doing? We are all singing.

Which part of the song are you working on first? We are working on the first part of the song through to 1 minute and 30 seconds.

How do I feel about performing to the class for the first time? At first I thought to myself that it would be awkward but now I just think well if I cant perform in front of my class how am I going to perform who im older if I wanna be a singer so I changed what I was thinking and I said to myself that I can do it and that I gotta believe in myself so now im not as scared as I was at first.

Describe the screenshots and the angles.

In Coraline shots and angles are used effectively.
For example a long shot is used here to show the new house and all the mysterious things about it.
The director did this to give the movie watcher that there is going to be a lot going on in this house and in the woods behind it. The director also did this to picture things in our head to make us want to watch the movie more.

In Coraline shots and angles are used effectively.
For example a close up shot is used here to show that Coralines father is not paying attention to her and focusing on his work more. The director did this to give us an idea that in the other world the other father focuses on her more often and can do more stuff with his life then sit on a chair and stare at a screen all day.

In Coraline shots and angles are used effectively.
For example a long angle shot is used here to establish the scene. The director did this to give us an idea of the room and the things within it to show its quit fancy. This can be compared to the real world as its less fancy and that the food and lighting is better.

In Coraline shots and angles are used effectively.
For example a long shot is used here to show that Coraline is on a mission to do something by the look on her face and the bravery. The director did this to make us want to know what was going to happen next and what could happen. The director also did this to bring us into the movie more.

Theme guide- Coraline

Looks can be deceiving- In the movie Coraline it shows that at first the other mother looks nice loving and friendly but near the end she starts looking scratched up and evil and not the same and turns out shes trying to take Coraline's soul. The cat also seems scary and not nice but in the end it ends up helping her.

Be grateful for what you have- In the movie Coraline doesn't like her parents as much as a child should because they don't give her much attention and don't focus on her instead they focus on their jobs and don't normally care about what she does but then she meets her other mother and is so happy and starts to wish that it was her real family but then near the end her parents get captured and she has to free them  and the other mother starts to change then Coraline starts to think that she does like her old family and that she wants it back.

Don't be greedy- When Coraline meets the other mother she is happy and feels heard and starts to love it in the other world because shes now getting what she wants her new parents can cook and listen to her when she wants to be heard and she is also able to do more stuff and starts to be greedy but she doesn't realise the things her other parents/real parents do for her and she doesn't realise until they get captured and the other mother turns evil.

Instrument evaluation

This term for music we have been learning about instruments and how to play them.
I would probably say the one instrument I would want to learn more about and mostly enjoyed out of all instruments would be the piano.
I would say the most challenging instrument for me would be the guitar because of all the chord changes and also I didn't really understand how to play.
I would like to focus on the piano for the rest of this term because I think that it is interesting and its peaceful and in my future the piano would be very helpful as im wanting to make a career with my voice and become famous for my voice.

Stay Strong

Hello again and welcome back to my blog.
Yesterday was actually fun during the day I was watching movies with my little sister Aj having some one on one time with her then at night we were watching movies as a family having no social media on and just watching movies. I am hopeing that lock down finishes sooner the later. Its been a very tough situation and it gets a little bit crowded in your own house when you are constantly there. This blog post is just a reminder to stay strong and don't forget that it will end at some point.
