In science we have been working on muscles and joints and a common thing on joints and muscles is Arthritis. something that could possibly destroy someones dream to do stuff depending on how bad it is. Here is a slide show I have made today about Arthritis.

Documentary

Today we had to watch a movie about climate change. It was just around 1 hour and 40 minutes.
I think that the main thing that surprised me was that he talked a lot about the future and today.
The main thing that exited me was that he also travelled around the world to ask what people thought about what is going on today and what they want in the future.I think that the main thing that worried me was that it hurt me how bad the ocean levels are rising just because us humans are being selfish and we are destroying the world.
The name of the person who did this movie is Damon Gameau.
I think that the two things that I learnt about this was that the amount of crap in our oceans are hurting/killing sea creatures and are making some animals that we don't know about go extinct.
I also learnt that we can change the world if we try hard enough.
What I would like in the future is that there isn't much rubbish in the world and we don't have to kill animals for meat.

THE ICECAPS HAVE MELTED. MOST OF THE LAND IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN FLOODED AND YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE ON A BOAT IN THE MIDDLE OF KNOW WHERE. YOUR BOAT IS SUDDENLY STRUCK BY A STORM AND YOU BECOME SHIPWRECKED ON A SMALL ISLAND. YOU ARE ONLY ALOUD TO SELECT 20 ITEMS FOR YOUR GROUP. A SECOND BOAT IS TRAVELLING NEAR YOU BUT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH YOU FOR 1 MONTH SO YOU NEED TO GATHER ENOUGH SUPPLIES TO LAST FOR A MONTH.

In your group you need to:

1. Make a list of the 10 things you are going to collect.

2. Draw a map of the island.

4. Draw and label the activities you will be involved with.

Aim: To look at how fossil fuels are contributing to climate change and how we can prevent this.

Definition of Fossil Fuels:
A natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms.

Scientific Terms for Students

• coal: a dark-brown to black solid substance formed naturally from the compaction and hardening of fossilised plants and used as a fuel primarily for electricity generation
• natural gas: a mixture of hydrocarbon gases that occurs naturally beneath the earth’s surface and is used as a fuel primarily for cooking and heating homes
• renewable resource: a resource that is never used up (e.g., solar energy)
• non-renewable resource: a resource that is not replaceable after its use (e.g., coal, gas)

Activity: 

In groups of 3 you will learn about different fossil fuels and the way they are mined?
Each group will be given a fossil fuel. The recorder will read it to the group. The recorder will write down some of the important points.
Person 1: Recorder: to write down 5 points of interest from the text.

How can we prevent climate change though recycling these products?

Plastics: the more you burn plastic the more gases go into the air and contaminate the air witch makes the world more hot.
Cycling or walking:when you are in a car driving somewhere you are releasing CO2 into the air witch contaminates the air.
Paper: the more you waste paper the more wood and trees leave the ground and soon we won't have any trees witch means we won't have any oxygen to breath witch will make humans go extinct.
Steel: as we burn steal and all hard wear we use for cars we release carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide into the air.

2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from?the energy consumed in glass manufacturing industry comes from natural gas used to heat furnaces to melt raw materials to form glass.
3. How is this resource recycled?Glass is taken from the bin and taken to a glass treatment plant. The glass is sorted by colour and washed to remove any impurities.
4. How does this object contribute to climate change?That's because the glass walls of the greenhouse trap the Sun's heat.

Investigate the different Fossil Fuels listed?

Burning oil can release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contributing to the warming of our planet.
scientists say that the world cannot burn more than one-third of known oil reserves.

Solar is energy we get from the sun. The sun has been producing energy for billions of years. The sun is a complete renewable source and now it can be harnessed. Solar energy technologies use the energy of the sun to light homes, heat water and generate electricity.
Wind power would still help the world stop pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which would fight climate change and global warming.
Hydro power does not pollute the water or the air. However, hydro power facilities can have large environmental impacts by changing the environment and affecting land use, homes, and natural habitats in the dam area. Most hydroelectric power plants have a dam and a reservoir.
Saving water reduces carbon pollution.

I have learn't that so many things can cause climate change but also so many things can help stop climate change but people have to work together to keep our world a free , healthy , clean and liveable planet.

Test a simple sugar - Science

Today at Science we did Test a simple sugar and it was so fun.

My buddy was Shontelle and I think that we work really good together. We both had a turn each at turning the test tube around on the blue fire.

Next to us was Keghan and Tukz unfortunately Tukz made theirs explode and it almost hit me but it didn't so i'm lucky.

the colour  that it started off with was blue than it went green than it turned orange than it turned brown.

I had so much fun with this Science experiment and I hope that I get to do something else like this.
