Aim
|
To see what color attracts the sun's heat
|
Hypothesis
|
I think that the silver and black will attract the sun’s heat more than the other color.
|
Materials
|
1x sheet of paper
1x white Styrofoam cup
Clear cup with black plastic wrapped around
Black paper
1x sheet of tin foil
Tin foil to wrap around a Styrofoam cup (or get a silver cup)
1x Heat lamp
1x Thermometer
¼ of water for each cup
Timer
|
Steps
|
collect the materials
set up the first cup by putting a piece of white paper on the table and putting the white cup on the sheet of paper
set up the black cup by getting a piece of black plastic putting a clear plastic cup in the middle and putting a piece of black plastic around the cup
set up the tin foil cup by putting a piece of tin foil on the table then putting a tin foil cup in the middle of the tin foil
set up the heat lamp
get the thermometer from your teacher/parent
get water from the teacher/parent and put it in each cup just around half a cup in each
start recording
once you have heated it up for 15 minutes put the thermometer in the water for 1 minute
after 1 minute in the water take it out and leave it out of water for 1 minute
do the same for each one
once you have done all the 15 minute ones do it for the 30 minute one and do the same thing with the thermometer as you did with the 15 minute
do the same thing with the 45 minute one with the thermometer
|
Data/Findings
|
It got a lot more hot as the timer went off each time and over time I started to wonder what it’s like in outdoor pools.
|
Conclusion
|
At the start the water was 16'c and then the water started rising as you can see on the tally. My group and I all think that the reason why the water temperature rise went high is because we were using a heat lamp and we were sitting under a heat pump.
In hot places like Australia they do the complete opposite instead of painting their house black because they know they will get really hot they paint their house white.
