Solar Energy

Solar Energy

Aim: To find out which colour attracts the suns heat.

Hypothesis:

Materials:

  1.  3x cups
  2.  Water
  3.  Tin foil
  4.  1 sheets of white paper
  5.  1 sheet of tin foil
  6. 1 black plastic bag
  7. Thermometer
  8. 1 heat lamp
  9. rap the cup on the black plastic bag in  little bit of black plastic

  10. Steps

    1.  collect the materials
    2. set up the first cup by putting the piece of white paper on the table and putting the white cup on the table
    3. set up the black cup by getting a piece of black plastic putting a clear plastic cup in the middle and putting a piece of black plastic around the cup
    4. set up the tin foil cup by putting the piece of tin foil on the table then putting a tin foil cup in the middle of the tin foil
    5. set up the heat lamp
    6. get the thermometer from your teacher/parent
    7. get water from the teacher/parent and put it in each cup just around half a cup in each
    8. start recording
    9. once you have heated it up for 15 minutes put the thermometer in the water for 1 minute
    10. after 1 minute in the water take it out and leave it out of water for 1 minute
    11. do the same for each one
    12. once you have done all the 15 minute ones do it for the 30 minute one and do the same thing with the thermometer as you did with the 15 minute
    13. do the same thing with the 45 minute one with the thermometer

Which surface conducts / attracts the most heat?

Here are some photos of our experiment.

Findings:

Time
Cup 1
White
Cup 2
Black
Cup 3
Tinfoil
0
16'c16'c16'c
15
18'c19'c19'c
30
19'c24'c20'c
45
20'c29'c35'c

Conclusion:

At the start the water was 16'c  and then the water started rising as you can see on the tally. My group and I all think that the reason why the water temperature rise went high is because we were using a heat lamp.
