Water Cycle

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition:

Water Cycle
The cycle of processes by which water circulates between the earth's oceans, atmosphere and land.
Involving precipitation as rain and snow.
drainage in streams and rivers, and return to the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration.
Image result for what is a water cycle

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapour.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapour cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the water falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting the water cycle.

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle.
Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change.
Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like Antarctica in climate change.

Material:

  1. Plastic bag.
  2.  Vivid marker.
  3.  1 cup of water.
  4.  2 drops of food coloring.

Steps:

  1. Get a plastic bag .
  2.  Get a vivid marker.
  3.  Draw on the bag.
  4.  Get 1 cup of water.
  5. Get the food coloring.

Climate Change Questions

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
Climate Change
How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1. Storms
  2. Sea levels rising
  3. flooding
  4. Heat waves
  5. Air pollution

What is needed to change history?
We need to stop Polluting the ocean , grounds and air

Is climate change a man made disaster?
Yes.
WE are polluting the air the ocean and the grounds.
We will soon make the world become the world of water.

Dramatic action must be made in the next 100 years to change it

Why is our climate changing?
We are polluting the air with carbon monoxide and we are also polluting the ocean and grounds.

What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Carbon monoxide

What is the main problem?
pollution

What are examples of these?
Pollution
Heat waves
Sea levels rising
Storms
Flooding
Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
Carbon Monoxide

How much hotter now is our world?
+1.c

What do we call this global warming?
Climate Change

How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
It's killing them and a common problem with animals is that it's killing the parents of babies and then the babies die either because they are too hot or are not being fed by their parents.
Because of this we are making animals go extincted.

What percentage of species are near extinction?
8%

How could this effect the world ecosystems?
the water in the ocean will be too hot for the fish and then they will die

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
Warmth and countries disappearing.
wild Fires are burning and killing People , animals and trees/plants

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
It is making more storms and sea levels are rising rapidly.
It is also heating up the oceans witch is melting the ice in the Arctic and Antarctica witch means the
sea levels rise.
It is also killing fish because the ocean is too hot for the fish and they all die out
1. It is making the whether hotter
2. the world has a blanket that used to be just right but now is starting storms
3. The Ice in Antarctica is melting and making the sea levels rising very rapidly

What is another effect of climate change?
 Ice is melting.

What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
The world will become water and only water there will be no land at all

How does this affect people?
it won't be just animals die out but it will be also people die out

What other things affect oceans change?
Sea levels
more fish die

What does too much heat do to the coral?
kills fish

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
Because some times it can also be helpful to us one what they are making such as...
Food bags
Cars

Climate Change

Investigation

You can decide on how you would like to do this investigation. Your presentation could be on the blog, slides, or power point.

Investigate the different Fossil Fuels listed?

  1. Coal
  2. Oil
Burning oil can release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contributing to the warming of our planet.
scientists say that the world cannot burn more than one-third of known oil reserves.

Solar is energy we get from the sun. The sun has been producing energy for billions of years. The sun is a complete renewable source and now it can be harnessed. Solar energy technologies use the energy of the sun to light homes, heat water and generate electricity.
Wind power would still help the world stop pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which would fight climate change and global warming.
Hydro power does not pollute the water or the air. However, hydro power facilities can have large environmental impacts by changing the environment and affecting land use, homes, and natural habitats in the dam area. Most hydroelectric power plants have a dam and a reservoir.
Saving water reduces carbon pollution.

Write a reflection about what you have learnt about Climate Change and how it is going to affect.

I have learn't that so many things can cause climate change but also so many things can help stop climate change but people have to work together to keep our world a free , healthy , clean and liveable planet.

Multi Sport with 7/8AL and 7/8WH

so today 7/8AL and 7/8WH did P.E together and man it was fun.
We did a little bit of multi sport. If you are wondering what multi sport is well your in luck because I'm going to tell you all about it.
Multi sports is a mixture of sports that you play at the same time. So mainly there will be two lines of people on each side of the gym. The teacher/coach will place a ball in the middle of the gym and call a number. The number they call is the amount of people to play the sport (for example) your teacher/coach calls the number 6, six people go to the ball and try get it before the other team does. that sport (for example) netball will only finish if one of the teams get a goal.
you can only go up to the number 10 & under.
What I liked best about today was learning different sports at the same time same day.

NB Ball

So today we got to play our own little game and we got to play someone eases game.
What I think they should have done better was made sure that they were going to the half way line and not getting warnings by doing the opposite of what the rules said.
What I think they did well was probably team work they were all communicating with each other and were not saying "we are so not gonna win" they were consecrated on their feet and their shooting but also winning.
What I would change about our game would probably be that you can't kick the ball to the other player because it can destroy the ball and can hut your feet.

What I think they should work on for their game is say what the aim of the game is and what you have to do.
What I think they did well for their game is that it was fun and their was lots of running after people involved.
What I think I would change about their game would probably be is the ball tag bit because they basically copied another game called ball tag but just changed it up a little bit by doing this...
When you get tagged by the tagger with the ball you sit out and the last one standing has to shoot twice and if you get it in you become the tagger but if you don't get it in than the tagger stays the tagger.

I had a lot of fun today and I can't wait to see what you comment.
Here is my teams game and rules of the game.

(NB ball)
Written by: Libby , Tehya , Kalea and Abby

Object

Shoot through the hoop and get as much as you can before the time runs out (30 minute timer)

Players

10 on each team but 7 on court and 3 subs

Equipment

Netball and basketball hoop

Scoring

You get as many points as you can in a 30 minute game

Winning

The team with the most points in the 30 minute timer wins the game

Rules

  1. If your teammates other team or the coach catch you cheating you will get 1 warning and if you get 3 warnings than you will get disqualified
  2. Each time a player gets disqualified 1 of your subs goes on and when you have no more subs the other team wins the game
  3. You can bounce the netball and run with it like a basketball
  4. You can not give the ball to the other team
  5. You can kick the ball to your team if it is rolling on the ground
  6. When the ball gets kicked to you you can’t pick the ball up with your hands you have to use your feet(if you can’t pick the ball up with your feet than you can use 1 of your feet and 1 of your hands by rolling the the ball up your leg if you don’t want to do that you can do it the way you would like)
  7. No shoving or you get 1 warning and if you get 3 warnings than you get disqualified but you can put your arm out to stop the ball from getting through the hoop
  8. The further away you are from the hoop the more points you get( in the black circle its 1 point , to the yellow line its 5 points , red small circle it’s 10 points ,  in the big red circle outside of the small red circle it’s 11 points)
  9. You need to have fun!

If you don't know what to put in a blog comment here is some help.....
